Day 37

Breakfast: green tea, strawberry shortcake yogurt, banana, and a piece of whole wheat toast with sugar free strawberry preserves
Mid-afternoon snack: a sliced honey crisp apple
Lunch: green tea, 2 bean/2 meat chili
Dinner: green tea, cheeseburger patty, caramelized onion, carrots, and sweet potato
Dessert: yogurt

Loooooooooooooong day of class today. I'm feeling slightly drained. Not gonna lie... As soon as I came home, I whined at my husband (well, that's normal for any day, tired or not) and immediately plopped into bed and snuggled under my covers for a good 45 minutes, in and out of sleep. It was pretty darn peaceful, except for the occasional sniff lovingly given by my puppy at the edge of the bed.

Dinner was spectacular, as per usual. Tried something new with the onion-carrot-sweet potato mix, and I gotta say... Yum! Husband liked it, and he doesn't even like sweet potatoes! His burgers were fantastic, of course... So it was a success all-around.

Had every intention of having a houseguest over these upcoming snow days (yes, we're having more), but unfortunately, it didn't work out. So it's just me and the husband tonight. He decided to actually take his day off tonight rather than go in for an extra day because the weather is turning nasty tonight. Actually, it's turning nasty as I type. Started snowing while Bray was on the kitchen balcony grilling.

Speaking of nasty weather and snow.. It's the perfect time for us to try to conserve on our bill and stop using the heater! At least, that's what Husband thinks. Our bill we received today was a good deal larger than it usually is, so he's decided we can't turn the thermostat above 67°. He loves being in the cold.

There are a lot of things I love about my husband, but that isn't one of them.

And now we're going to Walmart, because we are idiots and like to put ourselves in the way of danger and mass chaos. Good day, all.

Self-Pity: Take One

Day 36

Breakfast: green tea, bowl of Fiber One honey clusters, and a bowl of "banana ice cream"
Mid-afternoon snacks: strawberry and banana yogurt
Lunch: green tea, pita sandwich (shredded lettuce and diced yellow bell pepper on pita bread with italian dressing), 10 baby carrots and an orange
Dinner: two bean turkey/beef chili, side salad
Dessert: french vanilla truffle ice cream bar

Today is an off-day for me, so I apologize if this may be slightly less-optimistic.

Weigh-in this morning went well... Lost another 2.4 lbs. Still not well enough to place me in the contest though. I guess there's still a couple more weeks left, but I've kind of given up (on the contest, that is, not the weight loss).

Good news is my patient cancelled today (well, I guess it depends on who you ask whether that's good news or not) so I got to go home early today. It was nice to see Husband before he left for work. And I was able to have my (future) sister-in-law over for a mini girls' night, which was definitely needed. We ate, talked trash, and watched a sappy love movie (Curious Case of Benjamin Button)... What more could a girl want?

Except maybe to eat, talk trash, and watch sappy love movies with Brad Pitt himself... But that's just being greedy, I suppose.

(No offense, Jamie... But you saw the sunglasses, right?)

TOPIC CHANGE

It has come to my attention that there's a character in my life worth blogging about routinely. I don't know her name or anything else about her... Besides what she eats for lunch everyday. There is a girl in one of my classes whom I have had to sit next to on occasion. Thus far, we have had a total of four class periods. Three of those four, she has brought her lunch to class.

Day 1: Whataburger
Day 2: Sonic Drive-In
Day 3: .... If she brought lunch, I paid no attention
Day 4 (today): She brings... Pei-Wei

I mean, I don't know if I've mentioned it lately, but my biggest craving at the moment.. Is CHINESE. So not only does she bring BURGERS the first two days (which are my #2 craving) but the fourth lunch, she brings CHINESE?! This can't be a coincidence.

So this is what I'm thinking... She must read my blog.

Girl Who Sits Next to Me (sometimes) in Neuro Bases... Please 1) Eat your food before class like everyone else does 2) bring less appetizing food or 3) bring enough for the whole class!

I mean.. Isn't that something we learn in elementary school?

Wow, I'm feeling quite snarky this evening. I sincerely apologize.

TOPIC CHANGE

Here's what I keep thinking... There's a distinct difference in mind-set between those who are fat and those who have never been fat. (And I do not put people with a little extra baggage into the category of being fat... There's still a big difference). I hear people all the time say (especially those trying to sell a certain diet or another) that once you start eating and enjoying healthy foods, the cravings for the junk you used to eat disappear.

.... I call BS.

And this is one of the differences between fat people and those who haven't been. It's like an addiction. There will never be a time when I prefer turkey burgers and grilled chicken (however delicious they may be) over a juicy bacon cheeseburger or a giant plate of pasta. That's just ludicrous. I love the food that I make on this diet (well... most of it) but I would give it all up in a split second if I could eat the way I did and still lose weight.

I am struggling today with motivation. My legs are killing me, and I'm not sure why. Yes, I over-exerted myself on the exercises yesterday, but they weren't necessarily leg exercises. Not only that, but my knees are the worst they've ever been. It's very discouraging. I thought that my strength would get better and my joint pain would lessen as I became stronger. It's a process and I will get there, but I'm starting to wonder if there's actually something wrong with my knees.

And the suckiest part is that because I'm feeling so achey, I highly doubt I will be putting in any exercise today (especially considering it's 9:40 PM).

I guess here's to hoping tomorrow is a much better day.
And it should be since it's (probably) going to be my Friday.
Here's to another snowed out week!

Gains and Losses

Day 35

Breakfast: green tea, 1 piece of whole wheat toast with a squirt of ketchup and 1 egg on top (don't judge, it's scrumptious)
Mid-afternoon snack: two sliced pears
Lunch: green tea, caesar salad w/grape tomatoes, 1 piece of whole wheat toast
Dinner: WAS A DISASTER. green tea, sauteed onions and carrots, 4 egg whites and a pinch of cheese
Dessert: black forest cake yogurt and a 100 CALORIE FUDGESICLE!

Went for our weekly grocery trip to Crest today. Of course it was packed, what with being Sunday AND having another storm coming next week. Amazingly enough though (although not at all surprising) they were completely stocked up on everything. That place is fantastic. And cheap. I bought a TON of stuff today and it still cost me $100 less than it would've if I had gone to Walmart.

After I came home and unpacked groceries, I started cooking my dinner so I could eat while Husband had his breakfast. And that's when the problems started. I bought the same dang turkey burgers that I've been buying, and for some reason they, for lack of a better word, MELTED when they got hot. The first two packages (they come in packages of two) I put in the sink with hot water so they could thaw before I cooked them on the grill. (I DO THIS EVERY TIME) When Husband went to take them out of the package, they "disintegrated" (the word he used). Completely fell apart. So he mushed them back together and threw them on the grill anyways. Nope... They fell apart and fell down into the grill. Goodbye, FOUR hamburger patties! SO, round two... I put two packages of frozen patties on the grill. Went back a couple minutes later to flip them over... They, too, had sank into the pit of fire. GOODBYE four MORE hamburger patties! After that, I gave up and just decided to get my protein from a couple eggs... Thus the horribly mismatched meal of onions, carrots, and EGGS. But hey... Everything was delicious, so I guess I can't complain.

Except for the fact that I just bought a 12 pack of turkey burgers and now 8 of them are in the dumpster. Other than that, everything is just fine.

So, after dinner I decided to have my 2nd yogurt of the day and then take part in what can only be coined "Pure Bliss"... a chocolate fudgesicle!!! (that was only 100 calories!!!) I can't tell you how long I've yearned for the taste of chocolate to be in my mouth once again and I finally got it!!! Mmmm, it was delicious! I also bought french vanilla truffle bars (also 100 calories or less) and some frozen fruit bars!

I think I'm going to love the 3rd cycle! (And maybe also hate it, cos I know I'm not going to lose as much weight this 17 days). The thing is that since you're taking in more carbs and calories this cycle, you have to pretty much double the amount you work out per day, which given that we've only been required to do 17 minutes of working out a day up to this point... Doubling that really isn't so hard. So I did my regular 17 minute workout on the 17 Day Workout DVD and then another 17 minute workout on the same DVD that I've never tried before. It was easier than the first! After that was finished I did a 5 minute arm workout, and now I'm taking a break to let the sweat dry off before I do my Wii Fit and Gold's Gym Dance workout.

Definitely going to need a shower ASAP.

DISCLAIMER: The following contains material that is not suitable for all ages. Reader discretion is advised.

Two words: Stretch. Marks.

Because I've decided to myself that this blog will be the tell-all location for my dieting victories and pitfalls, and because I'm 99.5% certain that the only male who reads this blog is my husband... I'm going to share with you a SAD discovery I found today. When I was changing into my workout clothes about an hour ago I decided that I should look in the mirror and see if I notice any changes. (Note: the mirror in our bathroom is only a medicine cabinet... It's very easy to avoid looking at anything below your collar bones.) Needless to say, I hadn't looked at myself in a full-length mirror since this whole process started. Sigh... I was mortified to see that I've gainedddddd stretch marks. And not faint ones... Oh no... These are the deep, red kind that make it look like I've been slashed repeatedly on my sides. Ummm, I know that the stretch marks I have will likely never go away, but why am I getting MORE now? This is ridiculously lame and if I somehow could object, I most definitely would. I literally said out loud "What the...?!" and must have sounded very surprised/upset, because Puppy looked up at me and asked me what was wrong.

Okay, he didn't really ask, but his eyes said it all.

I guess, a bit of slightly good news is that I bought a pair of jeans about 2-3 months ago. They were the same size I always get but for some reason didn't fit (this happens from time to time with the jeans I get from Walmart). Instead of returning them, Braylen told me to keep them as motivation for when I lose weight. I tried them on again today for the first time and they actually were zippable. However, the style and cut isn't right for me, so I may have to end up taking them back anyways.

You win some, you lose some, I suppose.

And now I will play Wii Fit and allow myself to be verbally abused, once again, by the Wii fit Balance Board in the game. I don't know why I put up with this time and time again.. I should've left him by now...

Last Day of Cycle 2!

Day 34

Breakfast: green tea, raspberry cheesecake yogurt with 1/2 cup low fat granola.
Mid-afternoon snack: a sliced pear and DDP
Lunch: green tea, chicken and brown rice stir-fry (cauliflower, broccoli, corn, and carrots)
Dinner: grilled burger patty, caramelized onions in lime juice and 2 Truvia packets, and sweet potato fries
Dessert: yogurt

Man, oh man. I'm coming off of a high from dinner still, so you'll have to excuse me. It was EXCELLENT tonight. I'm very pleased. I've never made or eaten sweet potato fries before, so it was a pleasant surprise! Ah heck, I may as well show ya what it looked like:

The dipping sauce in the picture, sadly, did not get eaten. I found the recipe in another blog and thought it looked good, and it is alright.. But the fries were just better plain! I'll probably try eating the dip with veggies or something.

In addition to a great dinner, it was a pretty great day, overall! I got to sleep in with my honey once he got home this morning, and then spend the afternoon with him once he got up. I think he woke up sometime around 1 or 2 maybe? He wanted to go for a jog so I said I'd go with him.

Why do I do these things?

I ended up walking most of the time. I jogged some, but not nearly as much as he wanted to. It's just incredibly difficult to try to jog (in the slush and snow, no less!) when you're carrying around an extra 130 lbs! Sigh.. One day, hopefully, I'll be able to match him, stride for stride. Until then, I was happy to jog when I could and keep my heart rate up with a quick walk in between. I can be happy with that, for the time being, but I probably won't make him let me go with him again. I could tell he wanted to run more, and I'm just not up for it yet. One day!

I've been reading a lot of blogs and crafty/cooking websites over the past few days and have found some I'm really liking! Most of them I've come across through some of my friend's blogs and posts, so thank you! It's really gotten me thinking that my kitchen is in dire need of some reorganization. Of course, we weren't given much to start with in that kitchen, but I need to do some reorganizing to really maximize what potential it does have. I'm hoping to get a little guidance from my lovely, talented, extremely organized MIL along the way. I wish we had the money to just gut it and change it all, but unfortunately, that's just not happ'nin'.

Also, I'm in a crafty mood lately. What gives? I need to have a baby so I can make this for his/her room.

Oh, puppy has been extraordinarily adorable today. From letting us sleep in this morning, to willingly lying in his crate this evening.. I've thoroughly enjoyed his company! I realized, after I was finished cooking dinner tonight, that I hadn't seen Puppy in a while, and I couldn't remember putting him in his crate, but that was the only place he could've been, so I went to check. Yep, there he was... In our bedroom, lying on his bed in the crate, with the door wide open.. Just looking up at me with those puppy dog eyes that were saying "Need somethin', momma?"

Sigh... I need to have a child so I can stop obsessing over my dog.

We had our weekly cheat treat today... diet drinks from Sonic! Yum! I had a DDP, of course, and Bray had a diet cherry limeade.

(Still looking forward to Valentine's Day dinner... mmmm, I can smell the egg rolls now!)

Working on my shopping list tonight for the trip to Crest tomorrow.. Looks like I'll probably be spending quite a bit. But at least Husband got paid this week! So looking forward to buying foods for Cycle 3 (which starts tomorrow)!!!

Pasta and bread, here we come!!!

I'm not Thinking about Food...

Day 33

Breakfast: green tea, 2 eggs, raspberry cheesecake yogurt
Mid-afternoon snack: a sliced golden delicious apple
Lunch: green tea, Chicken-Vegetable soup, and a sliced pear
Dinner: green tea, grilled turkey burgers and stir-fried cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, and green beans
Dessert: a Boston cream pie yogurt and a black cherry fruit bar

Man, it feels great to finally be Friday! After such a long, hard week, I was really needing a break.

Pahaha, just kidding.

I can't believe it's only Friday!! This is the longest weekend everrrrr!! And to think that it snowed again today AND that there might be more to come this weekend and next week. I may never get to go to class again!!!

Which would just be tragic, of course.

I'm actually in the midst of studying for my Voice Disorders test. It's not as painful as anticipated for a combination of reasons. 1) I've taken a Voice Disorders class before, in undergrad, and quite enjoyed it, 2) we only have 3 days of notes on this test, so it's not an exorbitant amount of information, and 3) as previously mentioned, I made a vow at the beginning of the semester to study after every class day the material covered and I've thus far been able to keep up... So everything I'm studying I've looked at several times before. I really am not feeling overwhelmed, which is a new thing for me.

Ummm, I need to share with you that my dog takes on a new personality when it snows. He becomes somewhat of a freak, in fact. I'm not sure if the snow makes him giddy, he's got cabin fever, or he's just going through a phase that happens to coincide with this ungodly weather... But it's gettin' on my last nerve! He whines incessantly to go outside. And let me say, this is not the first time inclement weather that has kept him indoors. We don't let him outside after a rain, of course, and he doesn't throw nearly as large of a fit as he has been the past few days. This dog LOVES the snow. It's decided. He's just silly. We'll take him outside to potty (which is what you get, dog, if you whine at the door!) and as soon as we bring him inside, he's back at the door whining again. So yesterday and today we just gave in and let him outside for a couple hours... Which I feel horrible doing because we don't have a doghouse for him and every inch of the yard is covered in snow, aside from the ramp. But it's what he wants! It's ridiculous. Oh, and not only his behavior regarding the outdoors is silly, but he's been licking "himself" a lot more than usual the past couple of days. He is fixed, by the way, and shouldn't be concerning himself with his nether-regions, but he's been paying them an awful lot of attention lately and it's starting to give me the skeevies.

Okay, enough about my dog's privates and outdoor antics.

Being in my house... For four days straight... Is making me... HUNGRY!!! Especially at this time of night (after dinner, usually beginning at around 7 or 8 PM). Around this time, all I can think about is... SNACK, FOOD, DRINK, CHINESE, SNACK, FOOD, DRINK, CHINESE.... It's cyclical and beginning to cause me anxiety, I believe. Watching Kitchen Boss isn't helping me any, either. Buddy, come cook me dinner!

I might be going a little nutty, and it's a darn good thing I have absolutely nothing junky in the house, or my diet would be kaput.

By the way, Husband's back at work tonight, and I'm left guarding the homestead. Sigh... I sincerely and wholeheartedly HATE night shifts. I am blessed to have a dedicated, hard-working husband though, so for that, I will stop complaining and go back to studying and anxiously thinking about all the food I can't have.

Like this:

PW's Penne a la Betsy

And PW's macaroni and cheese

And PW's sesame noodles with sliced beef and snow peas in a ginger sauce

And PW's apple dumplings with vanilla ice cream

And PW's pancetta and leek pasta

Or basically ANYTHING Pioneer Woman. She definitely doesn't accommodate the 17 Day Diet with her recipes, but I love her anyway. One day, Ree, we will be united again... One day...

Side Note: I can neither confirm nor deny that I look through my album of food made pre-diet and drool over my keyboard, each and every day.

Snow Day: Part Four

Day 32

Breakfast: green tea, omelet with feta cheese and tomatoes, and a strawberry yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup low fat granola
Mid-afternoon snack: a sliced cameo apple
Lunch: green tea, black bean turkey chili, an orange
Dinner: green tea, grilled pork chops and green beans
Dessert: white chocolate strawberry yogurt and a fruit bar

Another day at home with the husband. The last one, in fact, because he goes back to work tomorrow (booooo hissssssssss!). I'm hoping nothing tragic happens while he's gone, but I'm sure as soon as he leaves the power will go out, the water pipes will freeze, my dog will become a pupsicle, and I'm going to have a panic attack.

Okay, not really.

In all reality, I'm actually somewhat looking forward to having some alone time because I have two tests next week (that were supposed to be this week, but due to weather had to be postponed) and I haven't seriously studied for either. I'm hoping this weekend I can catch up on that. Hopefully. Maybe. Possibly?

Oh, food pictures...

Breakfast. It was my first time to ever make
and omelet, and I have to say, I'm pretty
darn proud of how they turned out!
Oh, and excuse the paper and plastic... We're lazy in the morning.

Lunch: Had to make a few substitutions to the original
recipe, but it still was great. REALLLY spicy, but great.

Dinner: One word: YUM.

Oooooopsie, I forgot to do my exercise today. Sigh... I'll try to make up for it tomorrow. Maybe.

Braylen teasingly informed me about an hour ago that he ordered ONE of my Valentine's Day gifts (indicating that there are more than one). I am very excited. Oh, and he also informed me that I don't have to get him anything, but I do owe him a shoulder and back rub. I think I can handle that. Much cheaper than the laptop I was planning on getting him.

(Just kidding, honey.)

Well, time for bed (if I'm still welcome there). Goodnight!
